Thanks to my awesome friend, Brad, and KCRW, I was able to preview this album (live- pic above), about a month or so ago, and have been anxiously awaiting the release ever since.
It’s been a good 3 years since Edward Sharpe’s freshman release, Up From Below, and I was starting to get worried they’d never return to the studio. Luckily, this did not disappoint- I love it! Extra luckily (ya, I know that’s bad grammar), it’s the first of TWO albums they’ll be releasing this year.
Recommended tracks: That’s What’s Up, Fiya Wata (bc I adore Jade), Child, and I Don’t Wanna Pray

She’s back with another banger, this time with production by Hudson Mohawke and Nick Hook. As one would expect, incendiary lyricism and spectacular flow changes sum this piece up fairly well. Check it out below:
The Only Place doesn’t just advance Best Coast’s formula; it perfects it. Producer Jon Brion applies a rich coat of shiny sparkle, as is his wont, but his touch complements these songs without threatening to overwhelm them. At 35 minutes, not a second of the album is wasted, even as Cosentino and multi-instrumentalist Bobb Bruno wind down the proceedings with a nearly five-minute ballad, “Up All Night.”

Santigold, Never Enough (from the deluxe edition of “Master Of My Make-Believe”)
I know it’s only May but I am positive this LP will be in at least my top 5 fave albums of 2012. And as the track-listing goes, geeeez do I have trouble picking my favorite jam from this album…because really there are no duds at all. Disparate Youth, God From The Machine, Never Enough, The Riot’s Gone, This Isn’t Our Parade, The Keepers, aye aye aye do I get the goosies from them. And on any given day because I’m so fickle and indecisive each one of them is a favorite. But because I can’t ever get enough of the perfection that is Santigold I’m gonna go with the bonus track “Never Enough.” It’s eargasmic like all of MOMMB.
Master Of My Make-Believe is out now!
This is the only album I’ve been listening to since Coachella.
Highly recommended as a fun, summer dance party album.
Smims&Belle - Extended Remix of Blue Jeans featuring Azealia Banks
This is the only version of Blue Jeans I can tolerate, and that’s probably because I’m slightly obsessed with Azealia right now (one of the best performances at coachella).

Of Monsters and Men - Yellow Light
I can’t get sick of this album… seriously, it’s been on repeat for the past 3 weeks and I have yet to skip over any of the tracks. There are, however, a few tracks I’ll frequently press repeat on, and “Yellow Light” is one of those. It almost reminds me a bit of the xx, but with a much folkier, edward sharpe and the magnetic zeros type of vibe to it.
Maybe I’m crazy? All I know is it’s good, and you should go buy the album on iTunes while it’s on sale (15 tracks for $7!)
Thoughts on set times?
Too many conflicts!! This is when going both weekends would be nice….
